The Living Room at The Pawn

BARCHICK SAYS

Found in an old 1940s pawn shop in the heart of Hong Kong's bustling red light district, Wan Chai, The Living Room at The Pawn is the perfect place to kick back and relax after a hard day's work or a heavy Saturday night.

The narrow stairwell entrance leads you up and away from the noisy traffic and tram-filled streets into a place of instant calm. The interlocking rooms are filled with Chesterfields and armchairs to lounge about on – do your lazy Sunday thang here with a bottle (or more) of wine.

There is more than a little English influence going on here, but it works to create a great east meets west vibe. They even do Scotch eggs and a Neal's Yard cheese board if you’re craving a piece of home, but for proper grub head upstairs to The Dining Room (they also have a rooftop garden if botany and views are your bag.)

Back to the bar… go for one of the signature cocktails: a Chinese Lantern or a Wasabi Martini. They come quickly and more than satisfy - the perfect balance of sweet, sour and spicy in each case. This place does great cocktails, both alcoholic and non (a rarity in HK!), good wine by the glass and some decent beers to boot. There’s also a verandah beckoning smokers, especially of the cigar kind, with a range of vintage cigars on offer.
