BARCHICK SAYS

Authentic Japanese feasting with creative cocktails in a secret bar.

A stripped-back and simple interior, with vibrant and creative cocktails. Oh, and a hidden speakeasy-style bar where the mixology magic happens. Kudos, Machiya, we like what you’re all about. The upstairs decor is Japanese casual with wooden benches and white walls, while downstairs it gets a little sexier. Who’d have thought that udon noodles were possibly one of the best things to slurp alongside Asian-inspired cocktails?

Sucker for saké? Take a tour of the handy guiding map that lets you know how fragrant, light, rich and mellow your chosen saké is. You can even have it warm just like in the izakayas in Kyoto, awesome. The upstairs menu is a Japanese food lover's dream, with a whole list dedicated to wagyu and some mega matcha desserts. Downstairs it gets creative with cocktails like the tequila yuzu-kosho sour and whatever the hell a 'jigglypuff' is. Hint: it's got gin & vermouth foam and you'll probably want a second.
