From a little 20-seater shipping container in Pop Brixton to the pride land (AKA Soho), the duo behind Kricket are nailing it hard with this modern and minimalist take on the basement speakeasy.
Found next to the restaurant, this bar is all about killer drinks made with seasonal ingredients. High-quality spirits and spices take centre stage, all influenced by the Indian subcontinent. The menu is a bit like turning up to a party where you think you won't know anyone, and finding out it's full of people you went to school with - everything is familiar, but it's all different. The Gimlet-esque Leaf, which uses both curry and kaffir leaf alongside Opihr Gin and pink peppercorn, is rich with sweetness, while the Jaggery, a riff on an Old Fashioned-style serve made with jaggery cane, Knob Creek, toasted coconut and mace is smooth and velvety. Sesame oil, Suntory Chita, Metaxa 12, smoked ginger and grilled pineapple makes for a nutty Penicillin-style cocktail, but it was the Mooli, a sweetly pickled Martini made with pickled mooli, Haku Vodka and curry leaf vermouth, that we kept going back to.
Named after the Hindu moon god, Soma is open til the early hours. You'll be able to book a table if you're a crew of six (or more) but this is Soho, honey! Be a little spontaneous and walk in on the fly.
