The Tavern is a banging American burger joint in little corner pub between Zizkov and Vinohrady. Opened by the American couple behind Lokal Burger, a travelling burger stand that had a cult following around Prague in recent years. The Tavern is a cosy neighbourhood hangout, nothing too fancy, a few scruffy wooden tables, brick floor, all dressed up with fairy lights and red candles. The burger menu is solid, we love the Bacon Cheeseburger served in a red plastic basket, and the fries are a mix of curly, waffle and straight. Something for everyone. Keep it healthy (ish) and order your burger 'naked' with salad in lieu of the bun, or to hell with it, just pig out with their delicious pulled pork sandwich, served on the same buttery brioche as the burgers, with coleslaw and bbq sauce.

The cocktails are a little bit 80s, and a little too sweet, but don't panic, this is one of the few places that serves Nomad's Easy Rider, a Czech/American pale ale, it's delicious and almost worth the trip alone. Oh, and the service is some of the friendliest I've experienced in Prague. The Tavern is made for wiling away rainy Saturday afternoons, or fun burger nights with friends. They have a couple of vegetarian options, but carnivores should sleep well knowing the beef they use here is local, grass fed and free range. Nice.
