Founded in 1957 by a family from Madeira, Adega Perola is a landmark in Rio and was recently bought by two former customers. Situated opposite Siqueira Campos Metro, this small boteco/pub has so much charm it’s hard to leave.
A small space with an array of awards plastered to the grey granite style tiles, and punters spilling out onto the pavement smoking. Empty flagons of wine line the upper shelves of the glass fronted bar featuring an array of specialties.
Into pub snacks? These are the best BarChick’s ever seen: sardines, spicy squid, octopus, shrimps or yummy little plates of marinated vegetables, it’s all so good that they participate in the local boteco competition, Comida di Buteco.
This boteco has a 19 strong selection of Especial Beer and 25 cachaças to choose from and at £2.50 a shot you can’t go wrong. If you wanna blow your head off go for the Caipirinha Oriental (lime, ginger and chilli), it’s nice and spicy.
