Local is right across from the all-season, sun worshipping haven that is Kitsilano Beach. It’s airy and open, illuminated by strings of bare light bulbs, and the huge wooden bar and tables look like they’ve been crafted from driftwood.

Ask the fit and friendly staff for a seat at one of the booths on the patio for a great view of the ocean (and the volleyball players). If the sun’s out Local is packed, and it’s definitely the place to see and be seen. The regulars here are laid back because they love the good life, and fit because they practice yoga, when they’re not drinking.

Peruse the wide selection of local craft beers, ranging from ‘lightweight’ to ‘heavyweight’, but when it’s busy, order in multiples from their ‘bucket list’. The daily drink specials are cheap and cheerful; BarChick had the Kung Fu Punch, the so-called “Chuck Norris of cocktails” and we couldn’t agree more. If you’re looking for a poison more potent, review the tequila library, or look to the list of bombers.
